Add life to your days.

You were meant to rise.

Welcome to the Rise PT &  PE blog! We will share life ideas, treatment rationale and just good ol’ PT talk.

To kick things off, I wanted to pose a thought I’ve been wrestling with a lot lately. As a culture, we seem to be taken captive – almost paralyzed – when an unexpected event enters our lives. Whether it be an injury, pain, a job loss, a change in relationship, or worse, an unexpected diagnosis…we suddenly feel an urge to take life by the horns and live to the greatest and fullest depths. But why is it that it takes such a ground-shaking event for us to live with such vigor?

Now I am not here to diminish or down-play the profoundness of such an event or experience. When I was finishing PT school, we found out my father was diagnosed with Stage 3C head and neck cancer. Over the course of the next year, my younger sister and I rallied around him to collectively fight for his life. Talk about an eye opener. And perhaps this is where a part of this question was born for me….during this cataclysmal time of grasping at life while concurrently trying to “live like you were dying”. By the grace and abundance of God, my father has been in remission for almost 10 years!

But that leads me here. Instead of waiting for a time in our life where we might be pleading for more days to our life, why don’t we use the time we have now to add life to our days? Why don’t we wake up each day with the recognition that we have the choice to engage the day with the fullness of opportunity. That we are gifted the blessing and responsibility of living that day to the brim. And as such, we are furthermore responsible for taking ownership of our health and physical ability to do so. I am not saying you need to be the perfect specimen of physical fitness in order to live your most full life (whew, I’m still qualified!), but prioritizing your health and overall well-being gives you a greater chance at embracing life with complete fullness. Allowing our bodies to function with our own greatest version of freedom and mobility then perfectly aligns our mind, heart and spirit to equally free and able to embrace everything life brings our way.

So what does that look like for you? What kind of life would you like to add to your days? We would love to help you! We KNOW you were meant to rise.
